HOW TO PLAY GO FISH CLASSIC CARD GAME

The aim of the game is to collect either as many pairs or as many sets of four matching cards as possible. The player who gets the most pairs or sets wins.

Shuffle the cards and deal five cards to each player, one card at a time. Spread the rest of the cards face-down in the center of the table or on the floor.
Everyone should first check their hand for pairs of fish or sets of four fish, depending on which version of the game you are playing. Put all pairs (or 4 card sets) face-up in front of you. Each player must do this.
The dealer starts and play continues clockwise (to the dealers left) around the table.
When it’s your turn, ask any other player for a card that matches one in your hand – e.g. “do you have Tricky?”
If the other player has the card that you asked for, they must hand it over to you. If the other player doesn’t have that card, they say “Go fish!”. You must then take a card by drawing one from the face-down cards on the table.
If you run out of cards, also take one from the cards face-down on the table.
When you get a pair by either asking or fishing (or a set of four if playing that version), put those cards face-up in front of you. Then go again, and keep asking and fishing until you do fail to get a pair or a set. Then it’s the next player’s turn.
Play finishes when all the cards are gone.
The winner isa person with the most pairs of sets of four cards (depending on which version of the game you are playing).

HOW TO PLAY MATCH CLASSIC CARD GAME

Shuffle the pack and lay the cards in rows or in any shape you like.
Play begins with the youngest player.
The player turns over two cards, one at a time.
If the two cards match, then the player wins the cards, take them, and turns over two more cards.
If the cards do not match, then the player turns the cards back to being face-down.
Play then passes to the next player on the left.
The game ends when all the cards have been picked up.

The trick to winning this card game is to remember where cards are located when a player briefly turns them over. Then, when its your turn to play, and you turn over your first card, you may be able to locate its matching card.

HOW TO PLAY OLD MAID CLASSIC CARD GAME

Instead of having a winner, Old Maid has a loser. The object of the classic children’s card game is to avoid being left with the Old Maid card when all the other cards have been matched into pairs.

Shuffle and deal all the cards.
Each player looks for matching pairs in their hand and puts them face up on the table in front of them.
The game is played clockwise with the player on the left of the dealer starting the game by fanning their cards (with the faces hidden from the picker) and having the next player pick one and drawing it out from the fan.
If they can make a pair with the drawn card, then that player places the pair face-up in front of them. If they can’t make a pair, they keep the card they have picked.
The game continues with players drawing and discarding pairs until one player loses by being left holding the single, unmatched Old Maid card.

Old Maid Playing Tip: If you are unfortunate enough to find that you are holding the Old Maid card, the trick is to place the card in the fan in a way you think the next player is most likely to pick it.
